Sanwo-Olu Raises Hope for the Poor with Food Palliatives
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced that his government will provide staple food for the vulnerable households whose means of livelihood were affected during the Coronavirus lockdown in the state.
Sanwo-Olu announced the palliative package on Wednesday while giving updates on the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
“The free food will be distributed for households whose source of finance has been affected before the systematic lockdown in the state.” He said.0
He noted that the state has a current database for vulnerable homes, which is gathered during the week, adding the government will ensure that the food gets to the vulnerable homes.
According to him, the food will last 14 days for the households. “The package we are giving can last them for 14 days.” He said.
While acknowledging the efforts of the Federal Government and the private sector in the fight against the pandemic, the Governor advised people to refrain from undue panic about the virus.
Sanwo-Olu also announced Etiosa and Ikeja Local Governments as areas with the highest number of COVID-19 infections in the state.Â
He said the government will adopt further measures to curtail the spread of the virus in the state with reduction of traffic in markets as neighbourhood markets would be built to ease sales of food in the state.
“We need to reduce traffic in our market. This why we need to set up neighbourhood markets to ease sales of food.”
He advised people who have no good reason to step out to stay at home, saying, the state is progressing in the direction of curfew.
