OPEC Fund Approves $200,000 Grant For Beirut Port Explosion Victims

The OPEC Fund for International Development has approved US$200,000 emergency aid grant for victims of the August 4, Beirut Port explosions in Lebanon.

The grant is OPEC Fund for International Development’s response to the appeal by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ (IFRC) to scale up emergency medical support and economic relief for the people affected by the Beirut Port explosions for 24 months.
OPEC Fund said its partnership with IFRC, which dates back to 1997, has yielded 82 grants totaling nearly US$28 million in support of operations worldwide.
An explosion in a port in Beirut, Lebanon on August 4, 2020, had caused at least 190 deaths, with 6,500 persons injured and about US$10–15 billion in property damage.
The grant, according to the OPEC Fund, will be channelled through the IFRC, from were other raised funds will be used to support the Lebanese Red Cross relief operations, which include supplying healthcare and medicine through primary health centers and mobile medical units, and providing emergency shelter and other essential assistance to those in need.
The OPEC Fund is dedicated to improving people’s lives by providing public, private, and trade sector financing, as well as grants, to support sustainable social and economic advancement across the globe.
