The workers are protesting non-payment of increment in salaries promised by the Lagos State Government to its workers more than a year ago.

The Lagos State Government had last week directed tertiary institutions in the state to reopen on September 14, 2020.

Students in 300 and 400 levels were to resume today with other members of staff that had been off work due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, as early as 7 am on Monday, the unions had gathered at the entrance of the University preventing people from gaining entrance.

Attempts by the vice chancellor to plead with the workers to allow peope to go in were rebuffed as the unions insisted on locking the vice chancellor and others out.
