Job summary

The focus and responsibility of the Chief Operating Officer is to serve on the Senior Executive Team as the church’s COO with financial responsibility and oversight. The COO is responsible for assisting Senior Pastors, and the Senior Executive Team with operational strategic planning and goal setting. The COO ensures the operations of the Church are in alignment with the goals and objectives of the Church.

Responsible to: Lead Pastor / Chief Executive Officer

 

Responsible for:        Finance Team

Communications and Marketing Manager

Head of Digital Transformation

HR and volunteering Team Leader

Services Manager

 

Relating To:     Other members of the Senior Leadership and Management Teams plus Operational Managers at the Church

Purpose:    To be responsible for the central services function of Church, be an active member of the Senior Leadership Team and a member of the Management Team

Objectives:    1. to have a living faith in Jesus Christ, infectious in communicating the Good News of God’s love to others

2. as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, to contribute to the leadership, vision and strategy of the Church

 

3. To be a member of the Management Team

 

4. To provide strategic direction in the provision of central services to Church and line manage the heads of the various central service teams

 

5. To ensure Church’s finances are properly budgeted for and managed, with a clear financial strategy in place, along with line management of the Finance team

 

6. To work with colleagues to ensure the Church operates in line with best practice in areas of Health and Safety, Risk Management and Data Protection

 

7. To act as Company Secretary to the Church Board of Trustees, keeping abreast of developments in the wider sector and advising lead Pastor and the Board

 

8. To play your part in the implementation of the Church planned strategy

 

9. To represent Church when appropriate

 

10. Act in the best interest of the Church at all times and demonstrate exemplary conduct at all times

 

Qualifications:

  • Follower of Jesus with strong character

  • In alignment with “What We Believe” and “Leadership Core Values”

  • Likeable and fun to be around

  • Demonstrated track record of leadership/executive and project management success

  • Abnormally high work ethic (an executor who makes things happen consistently)

  • Loves The Church and lives the Church mission, vision, and culture

  • Healthy relationships with existing staff and leaders (in current position and/or at The Church)

Remuneration: commensurate with experience and industry standard
