Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial district, Elisha Ishaku Abbo, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He announced his defection through the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan during the plenary on Wednesday.
Abbo was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election.
He was immediately welcomed by the Senators of the All Progressives Congress and moved to their row.
Senator Abbo had on May 11, 2019 been involved in an incident at a sex toy store in Abuja.
Abbo descended on a woman after she pleaded with him not to physically assault the shop-owner whom the senator had accused of insulting him.
He claimed the shop-owner called him a drunk.
The assault was reported on May 14 at the Maitama Area Command Headquarters on Nile Street.
He was later arraigned by the police before a magistrate court in Zuba, on a one-count charge for assaulting the shop-owner.
But despite video evidence of the incident, Abdullahi Ilelah, the magistrate, upheld the no-case submission filed by the lawmaker and dismissed the case.
A FCT High Court however in September 2020 fined the senator caught on camera physically assaulting a woman at an adult toy shop in Abuja.
The judge found Abbo guilty and ordered him to pay N50 million to the complainant, Osimibibra Warmate.
