National Insurance Commission, (NAICOM) in collaboration with the College of Insurance and Financial Management CIFM, will turn out 100 Certified Actuarial Analysts and at least five actuaries by the year 2024 as part of the sector regulator’s strategic capacity development efforts.
The commissioner for insurance, Sunday Thomas said at the commissioning of a magnificent auditorium hall at the CIFM which is expected to facilitate mass quality training of insurance professionals/agents and as well provide adequate facility for conducting the CIIN professional examinations.
“The Commission has already commenced the Actuarial Capacity Development Programme in collaboration with the CIFM.
The programme is expected to develop 100 Certified Actuarial Analysts and possibly a minimum of five (5) Actuaries in Nigeria by the year 2024.
This is an important component of the Commission’s strategic focus on capacity development” noted Sunday Thomas.
The auditorium named, NAICOM HALL1 is a 1,500-seat capacity multipurpose hall which, “will undoubtedly be a value-addition not only to the College but the entire insurance sector of the Nigerian economy”, says the insurance commissioner.
He added that the commission is also internalizing the human capital development initiative through the effective plan of action for the takeoff of its academy.
“We will soon be requesting the assistance of erudite scholars in the industry to fill the identified Knowledge gaps in the regulatory system”.
The commissioner who expressed his gratitude to Governing Board, Management and Staff of NAICOM, President/Chairman in Council and other members of Council of the CIIN for the honour done the Commission by naming the infrastructure after it, acknowledged the support of the Board in the pursuit of all its initiatives including the completion of the Auditorium under the purposeful leadership of its Chairman, Jeff Nwosu.
The Commission, he said, will at all-times extend her full support to not only the College and the CIIN but all deserving stakeholders in the industry in their drive for insurance business growth and development. The Commission is open to new ideas and shall continue to introduce new reforms and initiatives in line with international best practices that will strengthen our institutions.
He appeals to professionals and operators in the industry to join hands in the completions of the CIIN office in Victoria Island which the foundation was laid over 30 years ago.
