E-transmission: Senate Decision Anti-people, Says Action Alliance

The Action Alliance condemned the ninth Senate for voting against electronic transmission of election results, saying it is an anti-people decision that will cost most of the Senators who voted against the reform their seats in the 2023 general election.

The party national chairman, Adekunle Omeaje, made this assertion in Benin City, Edo State, on Saturday, while receiving a new member, Engr Solomon-David Okanigbuan, who wants to contest the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the party.

Recall that Senators, mostly from the All Progressive Congress, voted against the transmission of election results electronically last week, while senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party voted in favour of the reform, making “for or against” a party affair.

Omeaje said the Senators who voted against the reform did so because of greed and fear of failure stating that with the decision they have taken, most of them will not make it back to the National Assembly in 2023.

He said, “If our children have been writing exams like JAMB, WASSCE, and NECO, and the results were transmitted electronically, why can’t our election results be transmitted electronically?

“I must say that the decision is anti-people. What is so special about transmitting elections electronically. I was here during the gubernatorial election in Edo State and election results were transmitted electronically.

“The Independent National Election Commission should be allowed to be truly independent, Prof Momudu Yakubu wants to do the right thing, the commission should be given total independence.”
