Profit-taking in Stanbic, GTBank dampen Market Sentiments …NSE ASI down 1.07%

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) equities market segment resumed Monday bearish as the market closed with losses to start the week negative.

The NSE All-Share Index depreciated by -1.07per cent on the back of profit-taking in Stanbic IBTC, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc ,Zenith Bank Plc and Access Bank as market activity for the day, close lower at 28,532.81 basis points from 28,841.67 basis points it closed last week.

Similarly, market capitalization declined N106.17 billion to close at N9.81 trillion from N9.9 trillion, while market activity as measured by value and volume closed N1.09 billion and 202.18 million respectively.

At the close of trading, most of the sector index went southwards to close negative save for the Oil and Gas and Insurance Index.
The Oil and Gas Index closed positive at the close of trading to lead the gainers list at the close of trade as bargain hunting persist in Seplat Petroleum with 1.3 per cent gain to moderate the index at the close of trade by 0.21 per cent.

Followed by the Insurance Index, which closed positive as investors optimism persist in Continsure (2.9 per cent) to close the index positive by 0.19 per cent.

On the flip side, the Banking Index closed as investors were taking profit in Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc that dropped by 4.98 per cent from N20.89 to N19.85; Guaranty Trust Bank recorded a decline of 3.7 per cent to N23.38 from N22.51.

Zenith Bank depreciated by 4.82 per cent from N17.00 to N16.18 while ETI moved from N17.60 to N17.00
With weak profit-taking in listed Banks share, the index performance dropped by 3.39 per cent to lead top traders at the close of trading.

Followed by the Consumer goods index, which declined for the second consecutive trading day consequent on loses in the industry bellwethers; Nigerian Breweries dropped by 2.1 per cent to N125.01 Flour Mills of Nigeria and Dangote Flour losses 3.1 per cent and 4.7 per cent to close today at N21.99 and N2.53 respectively.

In the same vein, the Industrial index closed negative as price depreciation in Dangote Cement was down by 0.6 per cent as the index further to close lower by 0.29 per cent.

The top gainers after trading today are First Bank of Nigeria Holding Plc that gained 8.4 per cent from N5.03 to N5.45.
NPF Microfinance Bank appreciated by 4.1c per cent to N0.98 while Unity Bank Plc rose by 4.1 per cent to close today at N1.20.

Top losers for today are Stanbic IBTC that dropped by five per cent to N19.85, Etranzact recorded a decline of 4.9 per cent from N2.45 to N2.33. Zenith Bank Plc joined losers in the financial sector to N16.18, 4.82 per cent below N17.00 the market opened for transactions.
