Arik Air Suspends Staff In Bribery Scandal
The management of Arik Air has suspended one of its staff members apprehended by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for allegedly soliciting a bribe from a passenger.
The officials of the authority had on Tuesday apprehended a staff of the air line for demanding bribe from a traveling passenger, which led to the withdrawal of his On Duty Card (ODC).
According to FAAN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Herrietta Yakubu, the Arik’s female staff, whose identity was not revealed had been handed over to relevant security agency for appropriate discipline in order to serve as deterrent to other bad eggs in the airport.
However, in a statement on Wednesday, the management of Arik Air said it has suspended the erring staff, noting that it would carry out an in-depth investigation internally.
He noted: “The management of Arik Air (in Receivership) has suspended with immediate effect one of its staff caught by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for soliciting bribe at the domestic wing of the Murtala Mohammed International, Ikeja, Lagos, pending further investigations,” the statement reads.
“While the management conducts its own internal investigation, we wish to reassure FAAN of our cooperation on this matter if further investigation is required. We fully support what FAAN is doing to rid our airports of this menace of corruption.”
