$2.5bn Dangote Fertiliser Plant Sets To Start

President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the Dangote Fertiliser Plant that is expected to deliver three million metric tonnes of urea fertiliser per annum in its first phase.

Buhari commissioned the facility that cost $2.5 billion and built on a 500 hectare expanse at Lekki Free Trade Zone in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos. The factory is Africa’s largest granulated fertiliser complex.

The fertilizer factory is the latest efforts of Africa’s wealthiest man Aliko Dangote, and it is expected to help Nigeria retain $125 million in import substitution and provide $625 million from exports of products

Dangote fertiliser complex, in its first phase is expected to produce three million metric tonnes of urea fertiliser per annum, supplying part of the Nigeria’s estimated five to seven million metric tonnes of fertiliser needs per annum

The current fertiliser consumption in the country is 1.5 million metric tonnes.
