Lagos Agency Evacuates Distressed Building’s Occupants At Ebute Metta

Officials of the Lagos State Building Collapse Agency have begun to evacuate occupants of another three-storey building that is showing serious signs of distress in Ebute Metta.

Already, the death toll in the three-storey building that collapsed at 32, Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta, Lagos, on Sunday night has risen to Five.

The Zonal Coordinator Southwest, National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, said though the building has not collapsed yet, the evacuation was ongoing to save lives and property.

The building had earlier been marked as distressed but the occupants were deviant in leaving the premises,” Farinloye said.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service late Sunday announced that rescue operations began on the 3-storey building that collapsed on Workers’ Day.

Already, 20 persons have been rescued alive according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency which noted that two who sustained severe injuries were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
