Nigeria, Qatar In Pact For Rural Development

The Federal government has signed a cooperation agreement with Qatar Charity Organisation, an International Non-governmental Organisation (INGO) for the execution of humanitarian, technical and other developmental activities in Nigeria.

The Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba who disclosed on Wednesday at the signing of the agreement in Abuja said the Qatar based organisation will carry out its activities under the supervision of the Embassy of Qatar in Nigeria.

Agba commended the government of Qatar for the steps being taken to advance the bilateral ties between the two countries through economic growth and development especially the interventions undertaken by the nongovernmental organisation.

The interventions include the construction of social housing and multiple purpose complex for the orphans/less privileged in Wasa and Dakwa, FCT communities and victims of insurgencies in Sokoto state; and the drilling of 900 units of boreholes across the Northeast, North West and South West.

The Minister said, “I am glad that these interventions are in tandem with National Development Plan (NDP) 2021-2025 which was developed to succeed the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) 2017 – 2020 that elapsed in December 2020.

“This will promote economic and socio-cultural development of the citizens in the area of educational development, economic empowerment, shelter for orphans and water sanitation”.

Agba then thanked the organisation for its laudable interventions and implored it “to extend your kind gesture to other states and communities that have not benefited from your programmes and projects”.

At the Agreement signing ceremony, the Chairman/CEO of Qatar Charity Organisation, Yousif Ahmed Al-Kawari led the Qatar delegation which included the Qatar Deputy Ambassador to Nigeria, Ahmed Mohammed After and other officials of the organisation.
