Ekweremadu, Wife Arrested In UK
Former vice-senate president Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice have been detained and charged with taking a kid to the United Kingdom for organ harvesting.
In a statement confirming the arrests, the Metropolitan Police stated that both suspects were charged in court on Thursday following an investigation by the police’s specialised crime unit.
The police noted that the inquiry was initiated in May 2022 after investigators were made aware of probable violations of modern slavery legislation.
The announcement adds, “Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person for the purpose of exploitation, specifically organ harvesting.”
“Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiring to arrange/facilitate the flight of another individual for the purpose of exploitation, specifically organ harvesting.
Both have been remanded in custody and will appear later today at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court.
“A child has been protected, and we are collaborating closely with partners to provide ongoing support.
As criminal processes are still underway, we will not provide any additional information.
