Suspend Campaigns, Join Me Help Flood Victims In Nigeria – Peter Obi Tells Other Presidential Candidates

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has urged other candidates to temporarily stop their campaigns and assist victims of flooding across the country.

Obi made the plea on Wednesday while speaking to journalists after his visit to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State at his Abuja private residence.

This medium gathered that the LP presidential candidate’s visit was to discuss modalities on his planned visit to flood sites in Benue State.

He disclosed that he had suspended his campaign activities to visit victims affected by flood, while calling on other candidates to do the same.

Obi noted that if they could buy nomination forms for millions of naira, they should have “some little things to do now that people are suffering”.

“Nigeria is greater than all of us and we must work hard, irrespective of our political differences, to ensure that we build a better Nigeria for our children,” Obi said.

“I came because of this flood issue. As you can see today, flood is ravaging the entire country and people are dying; people are being displaced.

“I personally stopped and told my people no more campaign until we are able to visit some of the sites, at least sympathise with those who are going through problems.

“And I came to take his (Ortom’s) permission to ask him that I want to visit some of the sites in Benue and that I’m going to do in one or two other states. I’m also calling on other presidential candidates to stop; let’s see what we can do.

“If we can buy our forms for millions of naira, we should have some little things to do now that people are suffering, and at least, show sympathy. And then, we can continue.”

Meanwhile, Ortom thanked the former Anambra governor for his concern and said he would have been working for his (Obi) campaign if he was not a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“I am in PDP and I am working for PDP. But I tell you, if I was not in PDP, you will see me working for Peter Obi. But I am in PDP. Let’s see how things work out,” he said.

Ortom’s comments came less than 24 hours after Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, a PDP member, endorsed his Lagos State counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a second term in office.
