The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, made a donation of N5 million to support flood victims in Benue State when he visited the state on Thursday.

Obi’s visit was aimed at empathising with victims of the ongoing floods.

Recall that he had suspended his presidential campaign on Wednesday. He also visited Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State at his Abuja private residence to discuss modalities on his planned visit to flood sites in the governor’s state.

Addressing the flood victims on Thursday, Obi promised to do everything he can to support them.

He also urged them to be prayerful to God so that they can return to their homes as soon as possible.

“I’ll start in the little way I can. At least today, I can start with the sum of N5 million,” the LP presidential candidate said to a cheering audience.

“We will do everything we can to support you. You will not believe this is possible. Be very prayerful to God. God will ensure that you go back as soon as possible to your houses and villages.”

“I am in Benue State visiting and commiserating with the flood disaster victims. My solidarity and prayers are with them,” Obi later said in a tweet.
