Death Toll In India’s Bridge Collapse Rises To 132

At least 132 people, including children, have now died after a suspension bridge collapsed in India’s western state of Gujarat.

The state’s home minister Harsh Sanghavi gave the update early Monday morning.

This medium had reported how the bridge collapsed into the river with about 400 people on it.

According to Sanghavi, a cable at one end of the bridge appears to have snapped.

Gujarat’s home minister revealed that the state has lodged a criminal complaint against the agency that was handling the maintenance of the bridge, adding that a special investigation committee has been established to investigate the incident.

Chief Minister of India’s Gujarat state, Bhupendra Patel, said personnel from India’s army, navy and air force are assisting in search and rescue operations.

Patel said the armed forces would be assisting the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF)

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has disclosed that the families of the victims will receive money from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
