The Nigerian military has pulled out of Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, reports have shown.

According to sources in neighbouring Akugbene and Okoloba communities in Bomadi local government area, the soldiers pulled out of the embattled community, Tuesday, 7th May, 2023, suddenly without any prior information to do so.

Okuama has been under the siege of men of the Nigerian Army following the killing of 17 soldiers in the community.

Since the development, the Army in reprisal had reportedly launched reprisal attack on the community and besieged it, a situation that led natives of the community to scamper for safety, resorting to seek refuge in the forest.

The Army had vowed to fish out those responsible for attack, while embarking on raids in Delta and other South-South States in search for perpetrators.

Several appeals have been made to the Army to allow the natives of the Okuama community return home. The governors of the South-south unanimously placed an appeal recently to the military to consider the plea for the displaced locals to return home.
