Tinubu Mourns Victims Of Jigawa Tanker Explosion, Pledges Federal Support

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion in Jigawa State that claimed more than 100 lives, while calling for a thorough review of fuel transportation safety protocols across Nigeria.

In a statement delivered on Wednesday by Vice President Kashim Shettima on behalf of the president, Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the tragedy, praying for strength and comfort during this difficult time.

The statement, signed by presidential aide Stanley Nkwocha, also announced immediate federal government intervention to support those impacted by the disaster.

“My heart aches for those who have had their families torn apart by this disaster,” Shettima said in the message. “This devastating incident has shaken us all to our core. The Federal Government stands firmly with the people of Jigawa, and we are mobilising all necessary resources to assist the injured and the affected families.”

As part of the federal response, Shettima directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to deploy personnel and resources immediately to Jigawa State to help manage the crisis and provide relief.

Shettima also urged Nigerians to reflect on the importance of safety measures and public awareness to prevent future tragedies. “Every life is precious, and we must do everything in our power to protect our citizens,” he stressed.

The Vice President praised first responders and medical personnel for their swift action and tireless dedication, noting that their efforts “exemplify the best of our nation’s spirit.”

In addition, Shettima emphasized the importance of road safety, urging the relevant authorities to set National Road Safety Strategy targets and ensure effective coordination between federal, state, and local governments to achieve shared safety goals. He concluded by saying, “Road safety is not merely a matter of policy but a critical part of the lifeline that connects the people of this nation.”
