Equities Market Record N100bn Dip
Investors lost N100 billion after hours of trading in Nigerian equities as market capitalisation dipped on Wednesday, ending at ₦59.2 trillion, from ₦59.3 trillion recorded Tuesday.
Beta Glass Company Plc, Golden Guinea Breweries Plc, and Lafarge Africa Plc emerged as top gainers, while Sovereign Insurance Plc led the decliners at the end of the five hours of trading on Wednesday.
The All-Share Index (ASI) also declined, dropping by 31.30 points to close at 97,702.56 compared to yesterday’s 97,733.86.
Despite the decline in market value and ASI, trading activity saw a slight boost, recording 9,403 deals, an increase of 74 deals compared to the 9,329 recorded the previous day.
At the end of Wednesday’s trading session, 399,507,962 shares were exchanged in 9,403 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 9.2 billion.
In the aggregate, 122 NGX-listed equities participated in trading, ending with 29 gainers and 23 losers.
Beta Glass Company Plc saw its share price increase by 10.00 per cent, rising from ₦49.00 to ₦53.90. Similarly, Golden Guinea Breweries Plc recorded a 10.00 per cent growth, with its price moving from ₦3.70 to ₦4.07.
Lafarge Africa Plc experienced a 9.95 per cent gain, climbing from ₦63.80 to ₦70.15. Honeywell Flour Mills Plc also posted a strong performance, with its share price advancing by 9.89 per cent, moving from ₦4.45 to ₦4.89. Sunu Assurances Nigeria Plc followed closely with a 9.88 per cent rise, increasing from ₦4.25 to ₦4.67.
On the decliner’s side, Sovereign Insurance Plc recorded the highest loss, dropping 10.00 per cent to remain at ₦0.80. John Holt Plc suffered a 9.98 per cent decline, with its share price falling from ₦8.92 to ₦8.03.
Ellah Lakes Plc saw a decrease of 9.92 per cent, moving from ₦3.53 to ₦3.18. Thomas Wyatt Nigeria Plc experienced a 9.42 percent decline, with its price reducing from ₦1.91 to ₦1.73. Aradel Holdings Plc also faced a downturn, losing 8.72 per cent as its share price dropped from ₦517.00 to ₦471.10.
First Bank of Nigeria Holdings Plc led the day’s trading activities, recording the highest trading volume of 779 million shares worth ₦18.8 billion, executed in 3,754 deals.
AXA Mansard Insurance Plc followed, with 33 million shares traded at a value of ₦243 million in 49 deals. United Bank for Africa Plc saw a total of 31 million shares exchanged in 210 deals, valued at ₦1.05 billion.
Access Holdings Plc recorded a trading volume of 28 million shares, valued at ₦671 million across 134 deals.
