The European Union (EU) has awarded a three-year grant of €300,000 to the European Chamber of Commerce (Eurocham) Nigeria, aimed at strengthening its secretariat, enhancing advocacy efforts, and deepening engagement with key stakeholders.

EU Ambassador to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Gautier Mignot, announced the grant during Eurocham’s 25th Annual Stakeholders Conference in Lagos. He described the funding as a significant step towards improving trade and investment relations between the EU and Nigeria.

“This financial support will enable Eurocham to expand its administrative capacity, external activities, and advocacy work on behalf of its members,” Mignot stated.

The EU’s intervention seeks to reinforce Eurocham’s role in policy dialogue and strategic engagement with the Nigerian government, policymakers, and business leaders. The goal is to foster a more business-friendly environment and strengthen economic ties between Europe and Nigeria.

Mignot emphasized that the grant aligns with the EU Global Gateway Strategy, a four-year initiative focused on infrastructure development across Africa. He highlighted Nigeria’s inclusion in the investment package, which covers digital skills, e-governance, and the deployment of 90,000 km of fibre-optic cables.

“We look forward to greater visibility for transformative projects such as the Omi Eko water transportation initiative,” he added. “Investments in agriculture, renewable energy, local vaccine production, and sustainable transportation remain key priorities, and we count on Eurocham to play an active role in promoting opportunities and advocating for a conducive business climate.”

Mignot reaffirmed the EU’s position as Nigeria’s largest trading partner and a major source of foreign direct investment and development financing. The grant is expected to further strengthen economic cooperation and create new opportunities for businesses in both regions.
