Established in 2011, WATAF aims to enhance the efficacy of tax administration and improve public service delivery among West African countries. The forum provides a platform for member states to collaborate on tax matters, share best practices, and address common challenges.
The 18th Council Meeting serves as a continuation of WATAF’s efforts to promote regional integration and economic development through effective tax administration. Participants are expected to deliberate on various topics, including the implementation of digital tax systems, strategies to combat tax evasion, and measures to enhance taxpayer education.
Adedeji’s leadership at FIRS has been marked by ambitious reforms aimed at transforming Nigeria’s tax system. Under his guidance, FIRS set a record by collecting N21.6 trillion in revenue in 2024 and has set a target of N25.2 trillion for 2025. These achievements reflect a commitment to making taxation a tool for national development rather than a burden.
The outcomes of the 18th WATAF Council Meeting are anticipated to further strengthen tax administration frameworks across West Africa, fostering economic growth and development in the region.
