As of March 28, 2025, Africa Prudential’s share price closed at ₦13.05, representing a notable 10 per cent decline from its previous close of ₦14.50. The decline is part of a broader downward trend in 2025, during which the stock has shed 36.5 per cent of its value from its January opening price of ₦20.55. This performance ranked AFRIPRUD as the 148th stock on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) in terms of year-to-date returns, highlighting the challenging market conditions facing the company.
The stock’s volatility was particularly pronounced between February 28 and March 28, 2025, when it lost 63 per cent of its value, underscoring heightened market fluctuations. Over the past 52 weeks, AFRIPRUD reached a high of ₦18.15 on March 10, 2025, but was trading 25.62 per cent below that peak at ₦13.50 by the end of March.
Despite the price drop, AFRIPRUD remained actively traded. Between December 31, 2024, and March 28, 2025, it ranked as the 36th most traded stock on the NGX, with approximately 224 million shares changing hands across 14,061 deals, amounting to a total trade value of ₦6.61 billion. The company recorded its highest trading volume of 23.3 million shares on March 10, while the lowest was 747,262 shares on January 30, reflecting fluctuating investor sentiment.
As of March 28, 2025, Africa Prudential’s market capitalisation stood at ₦52.2 billion (approximately USD 39.7 million as of June 10, 2025), positioning it as the 59th most valuable company on the NGX. This valuation represents roughly 0.079 per cent of the total equity market capitalisation on the exchange.
Financial results from the first half of 2024 provide further context. The company reported an 87 per cent year-on-year increase in profit before tax, rising from ₦603 million to ₦1.13 billion. Profit after tax also climbed 87 per cent to ₦791 million, supported by a 46 per cent increase in total assets to ₦29.9 billion. Shareholders’ equity rose by 8 per cent to ₦9.6 billion, even after a dividend payout of ₦0.9 billion. Earnings per share improved to 39 kobo from 21 kobo in the first half of 2023.
However, the company also faced headwinds. Revenue declined by 5.09 per cent, falling from ₦4.17 billion to ₦3.95 billion, while net income dropped by 35.52 per cent to ₦962.91 million, mainly due to rising selling, general, and administrative expenses.
