SSANU, NASU Members Protest in Abuja Over Unmet Demands
Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) on Thursday staged a protest at the University of Abuja main campus.
The demonstration, which is part of a nationwide industrial action, was organized under the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of both unions following the expiration of a two-week ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to address their outstanding demands.
The workers are demanding the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement with the government, immediate implementation of the 25 and 35 percent salary increases, and payment of all withheld salaries.
During the protest, members displayed placards with various inscriptions calling on the government to act swiftly to prevent a looming industrial crisis across Nigerian universities.
