NUPRC: FG Executes 536 Niger Delta Projects As Host Community Fund Surges To ₦373bn
The Federal Government has embarked on 536 community development projects across the Niger Delta region as part of efforts to improve the welfare of oil-producing communities, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has disclosed.
In a statement on Monday, the Commission said the projects are being executed simultaneously under the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT) in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.
Citing an example, NUPRC showcased before-and-after photos of a renovated school in Obagi, Rivers State — one of several completed projects. Other delivered projects include an 18-classroom, two-storey block, the remodelling of the 20-bed Ogbogu Cottage Hospital with a new diagnostic centre, and the upgrade of the Ogbogu Ultra-Modern Civic Centre.
Additional interventions include road pavement works in Oboburu, the establishment of a bottled and sachet water factory in Amah, as well as gas skid installations and school renovations in Erema and Akabuka communities.
According to the Commission, the total value of the Host Community Development Trust fund has grown to ₦373 billion as of October 13, 2025. The fund comprises ₦125 billion and $168.9 million, contributed by oil companies in line with Section 235 of the PIA, which mandates settlors to allocate three per cent of their previous year’s operating expenditure to benefit host communities.
The statement, signed by NUPRC’s Head of Media and Strategic Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, noted that while the Commission does not directly manage the fund, it monitors its utilisation through a digital dashboard known as HostComply to ensure transparency and compliance with the law.
The NUPRC further revealed that it recently facilitated the completion of over 10 projects and the commencement of another 10 under the Obagi HCDT operated by TotalEnergies in Rivers State.
