PSG Boosted as Dembele Nears Comeback After Six Weeks Out
Paris Saint-Germain forward and Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele is set to make his long-awaited return from injury in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen.
The development comes as a major boost for PSG coach Luis Enrique, whose squad has been hampered by multiple injuries in recent weeks.
Dembele, 28, has been sidelined for six weeks with a hamstring injury sustained while on international duty with France in early September. The winger reportedly spent part of his recovery period at a specialist clinic in Qatar before resuming full training with the squad last week.
The French champions shared photos on social media showing Dembele back in action during training on Saturday, signalling his readiness for selection. Although he missed PSG’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Strasbourg on Friday, he has now been included in the travelling squad for the trip to Germany.
PSG have recently welcomed back Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who featured as a substitute against Strasbourg, but the team continues to cope without Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves due to ongoing fitness issues. Reports also suggest that captain Marquinhos has joined the squad heading to Leverkusen.
Speaking last week, Luis Enrique stressed caution regarding player fitness, saying, “I don’t know when the injured players will return. We don’t want to take risks with the players’ health.”
PSG have enjoyed a strong start to their Champions League title defence, securing victories over Atalanta and Barcelona in their first two matches, while Leverkusen have drawn with FC Copenhagen and PSV Eindhoven.
Dembele’s return is expected to further strengthen PSG’s attack as they aim to extend their winning streak in Europe.
