Tinubu Extends Surveyor-General Adebomehin’s Tenure by Two Years

President Bola Tinubu has approved a two-year tenure extension for the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Mr. AbuduGaniyu Adebomehin, to strengthen ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s geospatial data systems and national land administration.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the approval in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the extension will take effect from January 5, 2026, and will keep Adebomehin in office until January 2028.

The decision follows the recent transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) to the Presidency — a move designed to bring national surveying and geospatial intelligence directly under the executive arm of government.

Onanuga said President Tinubu expects Adebomehin to “consolidate the reforms within the next two years,” with particular focus on national land management and administration, coordination of highways and abutting land infrastructure, as well as reclamation and erosion control programmes.

Adebomehin was first appointed as Surveyor-General by former President Muhammadu Buhari on January 5, 2022.
