CITN Mourns Founding President, Chief David Olorunleke
The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has announced the passing of its founding president and pioneering chairman, Chief David Olorunleke, fondly remembered as the “Doyen of Taxation.”
In a statement issued on Friday by the Registrar and Chief Executive, Afolake Oso, the institute confirmed that Olorunleke passed away peacefully in the early hours of October 24, 2025.
Chief Olorunleke, who led CITN from 1985 to 1995, also served as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance, and a member of the FIRS Board.
Describing him as a trailblazer and devoted mentor, Oso said, “He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and an enduring champion of the tax profession in Nigeria. We kindly request your prayers, reflections, and tributes as we celebrate his life and honour his legacy.”
Condolence registers have been opened at CITN’s offices in Lagos and Abuja as members and colleagues pay their respects to the man credited with shaping Nigeria’s modern tax administration.
