Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, on Tuesday hosted the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja, in what marks their first official meeting since assuming office.

The delegation, led by Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, included Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke.

A statement from the Minister’s media office described the visit as “a show of unity and renewed commitment to building a cohesive defence leadership anchored on trust, collaboration, and shared purpose.”

Badaru emphasized that the session set the tone for stronger synergy among the armed forces, signaling a fresh approach to tackling Nigeria’s complex security challenges.

He reiterated that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, the ministry and the armed forces would “drive a unified strategy and decisive action” to protect Nigeria’s sovereignty and national interests.

The meeting, described as cordial and strategic, is expected to pave the way for closer coordination between the Defence Ministry and the military high command in advancing Tinubu’s national security agenda.
