Wolves Dismiss Head Coach Vítor Pereira After Winless Start to Premier League Season
Wolverhampton Wanderers have parted ways with head coach Vítor Pereira following a disastrous start to the Premier League campaign, in which the club failed to win any of their opening 10 matches.
Saturday’s 3–0 defeat at Fulham — Wolves’ eighth league loss of the season — left the team bottom of the table and eight points adrift of safety. The poor run of form intensified pressure on Pereira, who took charge in December 2024 and signed a new three-year deal just two months ago.
In a statement confirming his dismissal, the club said results this season had “fallen below acceptable standards,” adding that all eight members of Pereira’s backroom staff have also departed. Executive chairman Jeff Shi thanked Pereira for steering Wolves clear of relegation last season, but admitted the current campaign had been “a disappointment,” making a change in leadership necessary.
Assistant coaches James Collins (U21s) and Richard Walker (U18s) will oversee first-team training while Wolves search for a permanent replacement.
BBC Sport reports that Pereira was informed of the decision on Sunday morning and will not receive full payment for the new contract he recently signed. It is also understood he regretted not leaving the club before the start of the season.
Pereira had guided Wolves to safety last season, finishing 16th after taking over with the club in 19th place. However, a challenging summer saw the departure of key players including Matheus Cunha, Rayan Aït-Nouri and captain Nelson Semedo, while uncertainty around striker Jørgen Strand Larsen added further instability.
Supporter frustration escalated in recent weeks, with fans directing chants at Shi and the club’s owners, Fosun. Pereira was also escorted away by security after a heated exchange with supporters following last weekend’s 3–2 loss to Burnley.
Despite brief success in the Carabao Cup — including wins over West Ham and Everton — Wolves were knocked out by Chelsea in the last 16.
Wolves now face a difficult trip to Stamford Bridge next weekend as they attempt to halt a winless league run that has included defeats to all newly promoted clubs and back-to-back collapses in matches they led.
