Students Express Relief as JAMB Gives More Time For 2025 University Admissions
Thousands of university hopefuls across the country have welcomed the decision of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to extend the 2025 admission deadline for public universities to November 17, 2025.
The deadline, previously set for October 31, had left many students anxious as several institutions were yet to complete their admission lists. With the new date, applicants say they now have more certainty and reduced pressure.
“I have been waiting for my school’s admission portal to update. This extension takes away a lot of stress,” said Rukayat Sulaimon, an admission seeker in Lagos.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, JAMB explained that the extension became necessary due to appeals from university vice-chancellors and the recent approval of additional programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC), which created fresh admission opportunities.
Many students and parents had feared that the initial deadline might force universities to rush the process, possibly shutting out qualified candidates—especially those affected by court-related delays.
Education analysts say the extension could help institutions complete pending screenings and ensure that no eligible student is left behind due to administrative bottlenecks.
JAMB acknowledged the efforts of universities so far and noted that the new deadline is final, urging schools to use the period to conclude all outstanding admissions.
For students, however, the message is simple: the extension gives them a renewed sense of hope.
