Remi Tinubu Calls for Data-Driven Policies as Nigeria Marks Global Day Against Child Sexual Abuse
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerian authorities and stakeholders to adopt stronger, research-backed policies to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse, as the world commemorates the 2025 World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Mrs Tinubu said the 2025 theme — “Strengthening the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse Through Evidence-Based Policy Making” — reflects a global shift toward practical, measurable solutions rather than symbolic commitments.
She emphasised that safeguarding children must go beyond advocacy, stressing that Nigeria needs reliable data, coordinated reporting systems, and well-enforced policies to ensure children are protected in homes, schools, communities, and places of worship.
“As a nation, we must ensure that every child grows up free from fear and harm,” the First Lady said, calling for a united front involving government agencies, civil society, religious and traditional institutions, parents, and youths.
Mrs Tinubu also highlighted the importance of collaborative, well-structured interventions, noting that child protection can only be effective when all critical actors work together to create safe environments where young people can thrive without fear of exploitation or abuse.
