Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to financial discipline, highlighting the prudent management of public resources as a cornerstone of his leadership.

Speaking during the commissioning of the 14.2-kilometre Obodhi–Ozochi Road—a critical route linking long-neglected communities in Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas—Governor Fubara disclosed that the state’s coffers contained over ₦300 billion prior to the emergency rule. Upon his return to office, he said, the balance in the treasury had grown to approximately ₦600 billion.

The Governor assured that within six months, his administration would present clear and verifiable records detailing the deployment of public funds, reinforcing his promise of transparency and accountability.

Addressing misconceptions surrounding state finances, Fubara attributed some of the public misunderstanding to his administration’s deliberate preference for implementing projects quietly, without the pomp and fanfare of public flag-off ceremonies.

“Several projects with far-reaching benefits are ongoing across the state, beyond those being formally commissioned,” the Governor said. “Our records on accountability and financial management are unassailable, and no fair-minded observer can fault our transparency.”

Fubara emphasized that every available resource is being utilized strictly in the interest of Rivers State and its residents. He added that the visible transformation across the state serves as tangible proof of prudent and responsible governance.

On the Obodhi–Ozochi Road project, the Governor noted that it was originally initiated by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, as part of a political strategy during the 2023 general elections, executed through former lawmaker and Chief of Staff Edison Ehie. Fubara said Ehie delivered on the assignment, prompting the government to not only complete the road but also extend it by an additional 4.2 kilometres, bringing the total length to 14.2 kilometres.

In response to community requests, Fubara also approved the construction of internal roads within the area, further boosting local infrastructure.

The Governor charged Edison Ehie to leverage the massive turnout at the commissioning event to strengthen political support for President Bola Tinubu, noting that sustained backing would facilitate the President’s potential reelection efforts.
