NMDPRA CEO Farouk Ahmed Resigns Amid Corruption Allegations
Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), has resigned from his position, just one day after facing serious corruption allegations from Aliko Dangote, the President and CEO of Dangote Industries Limited. The resignation comes amid growing concerns over the leadership of Nigeria’s petroleum regulatory bodies.
In addition to Ahmed’s resignation, Gbenga Komolafe, the CEO of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), also stepped down from his role. The announcement was made by Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Wednesday.
Onanuga confirmed that President Bola Tinubu had already nominated replacements for the two positions. To fill the vacancies, Tinubu has requested the Senate’s approval for the appointment of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC, and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA. Both nominees are described as highly experienced professionals in the oil and gas sector, bringing extensive expertise to their new roles.
The resignations of Ahmed and Komolafe come at a time when the oil and gas sector has been under intense scrutiny, following allegations of corruption that have cast a shadow over the leadership of the country’s key regulatory agencies.
