President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), appointing Mulisiu Oseni as its new Chairman in a move aimed at strengthening regulatory oversight in the power sector.

The development was confirmed on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the reconstitution followed the successful confirmation of the commission’s members by the Senate.

According to the presidency, Oseni’s appointment as Chairman took effect from December 1, 2025, and will run until the completion of his 10-year statutory tenure at the commission, in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023. Oseni has been a member of NERC since January 2017, serving first as a Commissioner before his elevation to Vice Chairman of the Commission.

Yusuf Ali was named Vice Chairman of the reconstituted board. Ali was initially appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022 and brings several years of regulatory experience to the role.
