Jonathan, Hajia Rakiya’s Support Helped Tinubu Win in 2023
“Internal power struggles and conflicting agendas plagued the lead-up to the election, leading the G5+1 faction to favour Atiku Abubakar and former President Goodluck Jonathan, while a cabal within the National Assembly and party leadership pushed for Ahmed Lawan, and the Yoruba cabal supported Yemi Osinbajo, stated Bolaji Raji.
While the cabals were busy with their various permutations in the attempt to hold on to power in the post-Buhari era, an influential member of the G5 +1, who was secretly vying for the vice presidency, attempted to bring Goodluck Jonathan into the race.
Jonathan’s support for Tinubu thwarted the plot, leading the cabal member to rejoin the G5+1 in backing PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar.
He claimed the G5 misled the Yoruba cabal into supporting Osinbajo against Tinubu, falsely believing Buhari wouldn’t back Tinubu, a G5 tactic to undermine Yoruba’s prospects.
Sensing the cabals’ intrigues, Raji sought Hajia Rakiya’s intervention with President Buhari to support Tinubu and also visited Goodluck Jonathan to gain his endorsement for Tinubu in the polls.
“To gain support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I contacted former President Goodluck Jonathan, visiting him through his nephew, Abila. I earnestly requested his support for my uncle, and when he inquired who that was, I hesitantly revealed it was Bola Ahmed Tinubu. After a pause, he stated that if supporting Asiwaju would foster Nigeria’s growth, development, and security, he would endorse him.
“I took Seyi Tinubu to meet with Hajiya Rakiya, and also to former President Buhari, Mamman Daura, and Tunde Sabiu for their buy-in in the run-up to the 2023 general elections.
Raji praised Hajia Rakiya’s contributions and also acknowledged the Emir of Katsina and President Buhari, who, despite the schemes of the three cabals, remained steadfast in their integrity and commitment.
