AEDC Reconnects FCT Water Board, Restoring Water Supply
Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has restored electricity to the FCT Water Board, facilitating the quick resumption of water services in affected Federal Capital Territory (FCT) areas.
Recognising the critical importance of water supply to public health and community wellbeing, AEDC Acting Managing Director/CEO Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye ordered the reconnection to address widespread resident concerns.
AEDC Head of Brand Marketing & Corporate Communications, Omede Odekina, in a statement, stated the reconnection is conditional.
The FCT Water Board is expected to present and begin implementing a payment plan for its outstanding electricity obligations within two weeks.
AEDC disconnected the FCT Water Board due to over a year of unpaid electricity bills, despite multiple notices and opportunities to settle the account as per regulations.
“Reconnecting the water board demonstrates AEDC’s commitment to community welfare and its belief in safeguarding access to essential services, especially those impacting public health and safety”, he stated.
Odekina stated that the power firm addressed residents’ concerns regarding the water supply disruption, which resulted from the FCT Water Board’s electricity disconnection due to an unpaid bill.
He said the AEDC remains open to engagement and collaborative solutions but stated that failure to meet this obligation within the stipulated period will regrettably leave the company with no alternative but to reapply service disconnection, in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
AEDC reiterates that disconnection remains a measure of last resort and assures residents of its continued commitment to transparent engagement, regulatory compliance and the delivery of sustainable electricity services in the Federal Capital Territory.
