The Nigerian government is set to send four ambassadors to their respective posts after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved their assignments.

Last December, the presidency submitted 68 ambassadorial nominations to the Senate for screening, and the federal lawmakers approved them.

Ambassador Ayodele Oke has been appointed as the ambassador-designate to France, while Colonel Lateef Are is the ambassador-designate to the United States. Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, who previously served in South Korea, is now the high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.

Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, the former governor of Kebbi, has been appointed as ambassador-designate to Turkey, where the President is set to begin a state visit next week.

Bayo Onanuga, announcing this late Thursday, said President Tinubu, in a memo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asked the ministry to inform the governments of four countries about the ambassador-designates, following diplomatic protocols.

Ambassadorial positions in Nigerian embassies became vacant after the Tinubu administration recalled 83 ambassadors, both career and non-career, in September 2023, instructing them to return to Nigeria by October 31, 2023. This group included 41 non-career ambassadors and 42 career ambassadors appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2020.

Nigeria has 105 diplomatic missions around the world, currently led by chargés d’affaires in the absence of ambassadors and high commissioners.
