President Tinubu Departs Abuja for Strategic State Visit to Türkiye
President Bola Tinubu on Monday departed Abuja for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, underscoring Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
The President left the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 2:05 p.m., embarking on a diplomatic mission aimed at consolidating relations with Ankara in areas such as security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the visit builds on the historic engagement when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Nigeria from October 19 to 20, 2021, a trip that laid the foundation for enhanced political, economic, and diplomatic collaboration.
During the visit, Nigeria and Türkiye are expected to engage in high-level political and diplomatic discussions, focusing on shared strategic interests in trade, finance, communications, and investment. Key government officials from both countries will hold bilateral meetings, during which several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) are slated for signing. These agreements will cover areas including scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and protocol.
A business forum will also be held alongside the official programme, providing a platform for Nigerian and Turkish investors to explore joint ventures and investment opportunities to foster mutual economic growth.
The Nigerian delegation accompanying President Tinubu is comprised of top government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson.
Other members of the delegation include the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.
The presidency noted that President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria upon the successful conclusion of the visit, which is anticipated to further strengthen the longstanding diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations.
