The Federal Government, state governments and local government councils have shared a total of ₦1.969 trillion as revenue from the Federation Account for December 2025.

The allocation was approved at the January 2026 meeting of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), which was held in Abuja, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), Bawa Mokwa.

Mokwa explained that the distributable revenue for the month was drawn from several sources, including statutory revenue of ₦1.084 trillion, Value Added Tax (VAT) amounting to ₦846.507 billion, and Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) revenue of ₦38.110 billion. He added that total gross revenue available in December stood at ₦2.585 trillion.

From the gross earnings, deductions for the cost of collection amounted to ₦104.697 billion, while ₦511.585 billion was set aside for transfers, refunds and savings. After these deductions, the remaining ₦1.969 trillion was shared among the three tiers of government.

A breakdown of the statutory revenue showed that out of the ₦1.084 trillion distributed, the Federal Government received ₦520.807 billion, state governments got ₦264.160 billion, and local government councils were allocated ₦203.656 billion. In addition, oil-producing states received ₦96.083 billion as derivation revenue, representing 13 per cent of mineral revenue.

Overall, from the total distributable sum of ₦1.969 trillion, the Federal Government received ₦653.500 billion, while the 36 states collectively shared ₦706.469 billion. Local government councils received ₦513.272 billion.

The FAAC also detailed the sharing of VAT revenue, noting that from the ₦846.507 billion distributed, the Federal Government received ₦126.976 billion, state governments were allocated ₦423.254 billion, and local government councils got ₦296.277 billion.

On the distribution of revenue from the Electronic Money Transfer Levy, Mokwa said the Federal Government received ₦5.717 billion, state governments shared ₦19.055 billion, while local government councils received ₦13.338 billion.

Commenting on revenue performance, FAAC noted significant increases in Companies Income Tax (CIT), Capital Gains Tax (CGT), Stamp Duties (STD), Import Duty and VAT during the month under review. However, Oil and Gas Royalty as well as CET levies and fees recorded only marginal growth.

In contrast, revenue from Excise Duty, Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT) or Hydrocarbon Tax (HT), and the Electronic Money Transfer Levy witnessed notable declines in December 2025.
