Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his resolve to uphold the social contract between his administration and the people of the state, insisting that ongoing political challenges will not distract him from delivering effective governance.
The governor gave the assurance on Wednesday during an inspection tour of ongoing rehabilitation works on internal roads in the old Port Harcourt township, as well as the proposed site for a modern market at the Creek Road area.
Governor Fubara stressed that his administration remains firmly focused on service delivery, noting that the mandate given to his government by the people comes with a responsibility to provide steady, purposeful and confidence-inspiring leadership.
According to him, the trust reposed in his administration must be reciprocated through visible development and continuity in governance, regardless of the political climate.
The governor explained that the ongoing road rehabilitation and the planned construction of a new Creek Road Market are part of efforts to restore the historic Port Harcourt township to its former status. He said the projects are designed to address persistent issues of street trading, traffic congestion and deteriorating road infrastructure in the area.
Fubara observed that the current state of Creek Road has made vehicular movement difficult, largely due to traders occupying sections of the road. He said the construction of a properly organised market would allow traders to operate in a safer and more structured environment, while freeing the road for smooth traffic flow.
He added that once the market is completed, traders currently operating on the streets would be relocated into the facility, paving the way for improved traffic management and enhanced aesthetics across the township.
The governor further revealed that construction work on the Creek Road Market is expected to begin within the next week, expressing optimism that the combined impact of the market project and the road rehabilitation would significantly improve mobility and revive the visual appeal of the old Port Harcourt area.
Governor Fubara reaffirmed that his administration would continue to prioritise people-oriented projects and remain steadfast in its commitment to governance, despite any political obstacles.
