Lafarge Africa Begins Moves to Expand Capacity
Lafarge Africa Plc, a leading cement manufacturer in Nigeria, has begun an expansion project in AshakaCem plants in Gombe and Sagamu to improve the combined capacity of the two to 5.5 million tonnes annually.
Upon completion, the Ashaka plant will reach an annual production capacity of 2 million tonnes (MT), while the Sagamu plant will scale up to 3.5 million tonnes per annum and increase the total capacity beyond the current 10.5 million tonnes.
Lafarge, in a notification to the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investing public, announced that the post-expansion capacity of the plant in Gombe State and the Sagamu Plant in Ogun State will mark a significant increase from current levels and reinforce the company’s total installed capacity, which currently stands at 10.5 million tonnes per annum across all operations.
These investments align with the company’s strategic priorities: supporting Nigeria’s ongoing infrastructural development, enhancing cement availability nationwide, and creating sustained long-term value for shareholders.
The announcement comes at a time of strong financial momentum for Lafarge Africa, which in the first nine months of 2025 (ended 30 September 2025), earned ₦780.48 billion in revenue, reflecting a robust 63 per cent year-on-year growth from ₦479.49 billion in the comparable period of 2024.
Profitability also surged, with notable gains driven by higher sales volumes and operational efficiency amid continued demand from construction and infrastructure projects.
Investors are likely to view the planned expansions positively, as the added capacity is expected to support volume growth and revenue expansion in FY2026.
With Nigeria’s infrastructure push projected to continue, the upgraded Ashaka and Sagamu plants should enable Lafarge Africa to capture greater market share, improve supply reliability in the northern and southwestern regions, and potentially deliver stronger top- and bottom-line performance throughout 2026 and beyond.
