An Abuja-based mining firm, Stone Rockers Limited, has instituted a N5 billion lawsuit against the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), accusing the agency of unlawfully shutting down its operations and confiscating its equipment.

The suit, filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olalekan Ojo, also lists the Commandant General of the NSCDC and an officer, Attah John Onoja, as co-defendants.

According to court filings, the dispute stems from the sealing of the company’s quarry site located at Plot FL-109, Cadastral Zone, Gaube Farmland Layout in Barmishi Village, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory. The firm maintains that its operations are backed by a valid Quarry Lease No. 37326.

Stone Rockers alleged that NSCDC operatives shut down its facility on July 24, 2025, over claims of land encroachment involving another company. However, the plaintiff insists that the enforcement action was carried out without a valid court order, describing it as a misuse of statutory authority.

The company further claimed that its equipment and other assets were seized on August 16, 2025, in what it described as an unlawful and forceful operation.

In its claims before the court, Stone Rockers is seeking declarations that the shutdown of its quarry was illegal, arbitrary, and beyond the powers of the NSCDC. It also asked the court to rule that the seizure of its assets constituted a violation of its right to conduct lawful business.

As part of its reliefs, the firm is requesting an order compelling the defendants to pay N5 billion in damages for the losses allegedly incurred. It also seeks the immediate return of all confiscated equipment and a directive restraining the NSCDC from further interference in its operations.

Additionally, the company urged the court to affirm its right to resume activities at the quarry site without obstruction.

The matter has been assigned to Justice Mohammed Garuba Umar and is slated for hearing on May 19, 2026.
