Mutfwang Assures Recovery After Jos Killings As Tinubu Visits Plateau
Governor Caleb Mutfwang has expressed optimism that Plateau State will overcome its latest security crisis, describing the recent deadly attack in Jos as a temporary disruption to ongoing peace efforts.
The governor made the remarks on Thursday while receiving President Bola Tinubu, who visited the state in the aftermath of the violence that left dozens dead.
Speaking during the visit, Mutfwang acknowledged the gravity of the incident but maintained that it would not derail the state’s long-term vision for stability, tourism, and economic growth. He stressed that Plateau remains on a path toward peace despite the setback.
The governor also used the opportunity to commend security agencies for their role in tackling insecurity, noting that their efforts are often underappreciated by the public. According to him, while citizens tend to focus on breaches, many threats are successfully neutralised without public awareness.
He expressed confidence that with increased collaboration between the state government, the armed forces, and the police leadership, ongoing operations would yield improved security outcomes. Mutfwang added that authorities are determined to defeat insurgency and restore lasting peace across affected communities.
President Tinubu’s visit comes days after gunmen launched a deadly हमला on Sunday night, opening fire at a crowded location in Jos and killing at least 28 people, including students and staff.
In the days following the attack, tensions escalated in parts of the city, with reports of sporadic violence, particularly around areas close to the University of Jos. Some additional casualties were reported, deepening concerns among residents.
Security presence has since been intensified across the state capital, as authorities work to stabilise the situation and prevent further unrest. Residents, however, continue to call for sustained intervention to ensure the violence does not recur.
As part of precautionary measures, the University of Jos has been shut down, with students evacuated from campus due to safety concerns.
Officials have urged the public to remain calm while security agencies continue operations aimed at restoring normalcy in Plateau State.
