Lagos State Deploys 500 Extra LASTMA Officers Ahead of President Tinubu’s Landmark Visit
Lagos is bracing for a historic two-day event as President Bola Tinubu arrives on April 8 and April 9 for a high-profile state visit. To ensure the city remains mobile during the festivities, the Lagos State Government has announced the deployment of 500 additional LASTMA personnel. These officers will be stationed across critical corridors to manage traffic flow as the President prepares to inaugurate several transformative infrastructure projects.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, shared the details during a Monday press briefing, emphasizing that the surge in personnel is a proactive measure to minimize disruption for residents. Working alongside the Commissioner was the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who confirmed that his team has finalized an inter-agency strategy to keep vehicular movement fluid while Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu showcases the “Greater Lagos” vision.
The visit highlights several massive achievements, most notably the Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge. This 5.04-kilometre project, originally conceived two decades ago during Tinubu’s tenure as Governor, was revived by the Sanwo-Olu administration to solve chronic congestion in the Ikeja axis. Other key sites set for commissioning include the Alausa Multi-Agency Complex, the Lagos State Geographic Information Service Building, and the sprawling Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, which now serves 20,000 pupils with modernized facilities.
State officials are urging motorists to stay informed by following temporary diversions and complying with all security guidelines. As the President tours these landmarks—ranging from education hubs to the new Mid-Level Agro-Produce Hub in Abijo—the government maintains that these projects are essential for stimulating economic activity and enhancing social welfare across the state.
With several major roads affected by the President’s itinerary, do you think the new Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge will finally provide a permanent solution to the traffic woes in the Ikeja metropolitan zone?
