Yusuf Buhari, the son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

In a letter dated April 3, 2026, and addressed to party stakeholders, Yusuf formally announced his ambition to represent the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The letter, signed by him and obtained by Channels Television, outlined his plans to contribute to effective leadership and development in the constituency.

According to Yusuf, his decision followed extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders, and he expressed optimism about delivering improved infrastructure and social development if elected. He also appealed for the support of party leaders and supporters to help actualize his political aspiration.

His entry into the race comes shortly after APC stakeholders in the Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State publicly endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the constituency. The endorsement was reportedly made during a high-level meeting held at the local government secretariat, which brought together political officeholders and party leaders across the area.

A reliable source within the party described Yusuf as an ā€œanointed candidate,ā€ suggesting that his emergence has strong backing from influential figures within the party structure. The source also pointed to the support of Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, as a key factor behind his endorsement.

Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, Sandamu Local Government Council Chairman, Usman Na-lado, said the decision reflected a collective agreement among party members. He expressed confidence in Yusuf’s capacity, noting that his candidacy had been widely accepted within party circles.

The meeting also reaffirmed the stakeholders’ support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Radda as the APC’s preferred candidates for the presidency and governorship in the upcoming elections.

Yusuf Buhari’s political move adds a new dimension to early manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly within Katsina State, where party stakeholders are already aligning behind key figures in the ruling party.
