The Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja is set for immediate repairs after a violent rainstorm on Tuesday caused significant structural damage to the facility. Lere Olayinka, the media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, confirmed on Wednesday that the contractor will take full responsibility for fixing the terminal, which saw its roof and surrounding structures torn apart by heavy winds and rain.

The incident caused massive disruption along the Abuja–Keffi Expressway, leaving motorists stranded in traffic for up to three hours as debris spilled onto the highway. In response to the chaos, Nyesom Wike swiftly directed the deployment of security personnel and FRSC officials to manage the gridlock and clear the busy Kugbo–Nyanya road corridor.

The damage has sparked a heated debate regarding the project’s structural integrity. Responding to social media criticism from Cyprian Egere Amanke, who questioned how a multi-billion naira project could be so easily damaged, Olayinka defended the development. He noted that the contractor is committed to the repairs and emphasized that the terminal remains a vital project that will provide a livelihood for many Nigerians, despite the “ranting” of critics on social media.

While eyewitnesses expressed relief that the terminal was not fully crowded when the storm hit, the focus now shifts to the speed of the restoration. For now, the FCT administration is prioritizing the safety of the site and the restoration of normal traffic flow for the thousands of commuters who rely on this essential transit artery.

Do you think the government should investigate the quality of the materials used, or was this simply an unavoidable “act of God”?
