During a high-profile working visit to Bayelsa State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially commissioned several key infrastructure projects, including the Yenagoa city road. Addressing a crowd of citizens and officials, the President framed these developments as essential pillars for improving urban mobility, enhancing access, and driving the long-term economic transformation of the Niger Delta.

While celebrating the state’s progress, the President addressed the “elephant in the room”: the rising cost of living. Acknowledging the weight of rising fuel prices, he urged Nigerians to maintain a broader perspective on the continent’s economic climate. “The fuel price is biting hard, but look around,” the President noted. “Let’s just thank God together that you are better off. Listen to them in Kenya, in other African countries, what they are going through.”

President Tinubu emphasized that the value of these projects extends far beyond asphalt and concrete. He highlighted their role in job creation, pointing out that large-scale construction activities provide immediate livelihoods for a diverse workforce, including welders, concrete mixers, and local suppliers. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope agenda, stressing that federal support for sub-national governments remains a top priority.

The visit also served as a call for deeper federal-state collaboration. Highlighting partnerships with states like Bayelsa and Delta, the President vowed to continue driving regional growth to transform the Niger Delta into a more prosperous hub. He concluded by stressing the need for transparency and honesty in governance, promising that his administration would remain focused on policies that strengthen the national economy and improve the quality of life for all citizens.

Do you agree with the President’s view that Nigeria is weathering the global economic crisis better than its African neighbors?
