Bernardo Silva will leave Manchester City at the end of the season, bringing an end to a highly successful nine-year spell at the Premier League champions.
The club confirmed the development on Thursday, announcing that the Portuguese midfielder—who currently serves as captain—will depart when his contract expires this summer. City described his contribution as “incalculable,” praising his role in what they called the most successful era in the club’s history.
Silva joined the English side from AS Monaco in 2017 for £43 million and has since become one of the team’s most influential players under manager Pep Guardiola. Over the years, he has made more than 450 appearances, scoring 76 goals and providing 77 assists.
During his time at the Etihad Stadium, Silva helped City secure 15 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League crown. He was also a key figure in the club’s historic 2022/23 campaign, when they won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League to complete a treble.
The 31-year-old recently entered the top 10 list of all-time appearance makers for Manchester City, surpassing notable former players such as David Silva, Paul Power, and Willie Donachie.
In a statement, the club said Silva would now focus on finishing the season strongly, with City still competing for domestic honours, including the Premier League title and FA Cup.
Confirming his departure in an emotional message shared on social media, Silva reflected on his journey with the club, describing it as the fulfilment of a childhood dream. He expressed gratitude for the success achieved and the personal milestones reached during his time in Manchester.
He also thanked teammates, coaching staff, and fans for their support, noting that the bond created over the years made the club feel like home. Silva added that he intends to cherish the memories while aiming to add more silverware before his exit.
The midfielder said he would leave not only as a decorated player but also as a lifelong supporter of Manchester City, pledging to give his all in the remaining weeks of the season.
