Warri Doctor Dies Following Brutal Attack at Central Hospital
A young House Officer at Central Hospital Warri has tragically passed away after collapsing earlier this week. Dr Ogbomade Samson Romani, a graduate of Niger Delta University, died in the intensive care unit following months of health struggles. His colleagues believe his death is linked to a violent assault he suffered while on duty back in February.
During that incident, a group of hoodlums allegedly hired by a patient’s relative attacked the doctor. Witnesses say the beating lasted for twenty minutes, yet security staff were slow to help. Dr Samson suffered serious injuries to his face and abdomen, which led to recurring health problems. Despite the severity of the hospital safety breach, the authorities never arrested his attackers.
Earlier this week, the hardworking doctor told colleagues he felt unwell during a meeting. While walking back to his hostel to rest, he slumped and lost consciousness. Although he received emergency care in the ICU, he sadly did not survive. His friends and fellow medics describe him as a respectful and dedicated professional who was deeply committed to his patients.
This heartbreaking loss is the second death of a doctor from the Niger Delta University community in just one week. The tragedy has sparked huge concerns regarding hospital safety for medical staff in public facilities. Many are now calling on the Delta State Government to launch a full investigation into the original attack. Medical unions are demanding that the police find those responsible and improve security measures to protect healthcare workers from future violence.
Should the government be held legally responsible for the safety of medical staff working in public hospitals?
