Inter Seal Serie A Title with Parma Victory
Inter Milan have officially been crowned champions of Italy after a 2-0 home victory against Parma. Goals from Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan ensured the club secured their 21st Scudetto with three games to spare.
Inter Milan claimed the Serie A title on Sunday afternoon after beating Parma 2-0 in front of their jubilant home supporters. This crucial victory at the San Siro means the club now holds a lead that no other team can possibly overtake this season.
The breakthrough arrived during first-half stoppage time when Marcus Thuram found the net. Later, Henrikh Mkhitaryan confirmed the result by scoring ten minutes before the final whistle. This win moves the team to 82 points, securing their 21st Scudetto with three games still to play.
The squad knew a single point would suffice after Napoli drew with Como on Saturday. Following Sunday’s result, they sit twelve points clear at the top. Reflecting on the journey, Nicolo Barella told DAZN: “I always said that you can make mistakes on the field, but this team never lost the desire to stay together. We always gave everything we had; you can win or lose, but I am so proud of these players.”
While the hosts dominated possession, Barella nearly scored earlier when his shot hit the crossbar. Eventually, Thuram converted a pass from Piotr Zielinski to break the deadlock. In the second half, Lautaro Martinez set up Mkhitaryan to finish the job. This Serie A title win feels like redemption after the club lost out on the final day last year. Martinez noted: “It was a very important objective for us; perhaps many didn’t see us being favourites considering what happened last term, but we worked so hard on and off the field.” Although Parma had a late goal disallowed for offside, the celebrations for the 21st Scudetto had already begun in the stands.
How do you think this dominant Inter Milan side will perform in European competitions during the next football season?
